William Maher is an American comedian, political commentator and television presenter. He is known for HBO's Real Time political talk show with Bill Maher and a similar late-night show called Polially Incorrect, initially Comedy Central and later ABC. Maher is known for her work in political satire and social political commentary. He focused on a wide range of topics including religion, political correctness and the media. His critiques of religion formed the basis of his 2008 documentary, Religion. He is an animal rights advocate, has served on the board of directors of PETA since 1997 and is a member of the advisory board of Project Reason. Maher helps legalize cannabis, serving on NORML's advisory board. In 2005, Maher was ranked 38th in Comedy Central's 100 Best Comedians of All Time. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 14, 2010. In 2014, Maher won the Primetime Emmy Award for his work as an executive producer for Vice.
