On 8 July 2019, Goldsmith's fifteen-year-old daughter, Iris, died in a quad bike accident on his farm in North Brewham, Somerset. Goldsmith said that "it hurts me so much I can't describe".

In 2018, Goldsmith was appointed non-executive director at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
